Benefits of Bodywork

Bodywork is used to improve performance, aid in rehabilitation, and as a tool for prevention of injury by catching dysfunctional movement patterns and tension early.

I have dealt with back pain since adolescence and bodywork has been profoundly beneficial in easing pain, improving mobility, calming anxiety and improving my energy levels. Early in my career I recognized how many horses struggled with musculoskeletal pain, tension and asymmetries. Knowing how much bodywork helped me, it inspired me to become a certified bodyworker to help horses feel more comfortable in their bodies, allowing improvement in performance and most importantly enjoyment in ridden work.

I am a Certified Equine Bodyworker through Equinology.

What does a Session look like?

I begin my sessions talking with you about your horse, their history and any areas of concern. Next I will do a visual assessment at the halt and in movement - looking at their posture, overall muscling, hoof balance, movement patterns and mental state. Next I will do a hands-on assessment which flows into the bodywork. The horse is the greatest teacher and I use their subtle cues and responses to guide the session. Sessions typically last 90 minutes but may be shorter or longer, depending on what the horse is communicating they need for that day. Each session is highly individual and based on the needs on the horse at each moment. I utilize a blend of techniques including myofascial release, sports massage, nerve release, in hand work and reiki for horses that are guarded to touch. If I feel in-hand work is appropriate for the session, I only do so with your approval. After the session I will discuss with you my observations and recommendations. If there is an area of concern outside my scope, I will recommend investigation with the appropriate professional such as a vet, farrier, nutritionist or saddle fitter.

Bodywork is most effective when combined with correct in-hand and ridden work and I offer a unique perspective as a dressage trainer and bodyworker. I am happy to include an in-hand lesson as part of the session to provide exercises that help maintain the bodywork and improve posture.
